You could go run four miles and in doing so would probably burn about 750 calories, depending on your weight and metabolism. Even though you ran four miles, you would still have an excess of 750 calories in your body, which would result in a weight gain of about 1/5 of a pound. That means you’re going to gain a pound about every week, even if you run four miles per day.

This is why the best weight loss method around is to make sure your diet stays under control. If your body uses 2,000 calories per day, you will have to eat less than that to lose weight. The other option is to eat about 2,000 and make up for it with exercises that can burn additional calories.

It’s all about the calories folks, and you’re not going to like the next step in this lesson. I would start counting how many calories you eat each day. If you do this for a few weeks, you will have a good idea of where you stand. You can then start to cut excess calories to start lowering your intake. I would recommend lowering your intake by about 500 calories, and then giving it about a month to see what happens to your weight.

If you have lost weight in that time period, you know that you are at a good caloric level. If your weight stays exactly the same, you will need to lower your intake even further or take on some cardiovascular exercise. To achieve best results, you need to know what calorie range you should get yourself into. This is achieved by testing different intake levels with results.

The best weight loss option really is just eating healthy and in moderation. You can still eat great foods without starving yourself. It should not be an effort. And if you walk for 30 minutes a day then you have had enough exercise. This could be walking your dog or parking the car further away than usual when going shopping and so on. It doesn’t have to mean spending money and going to the gym. If you do it this way it doesn’t feel like an exercise program.

This will even work for people who are obese. Obviously it will take a while for the weight to come off but in the end when it does you will be in a routine that just seems normal and you will keep the weight off. Where as if you go on some special diet and major exercise program you will eventually come off it and then go back to your old ways, get fat and start all over again. It tires me just to think about it! I know it is hard especially the older we get but if you keep on top of it you will be much healthier and happier for it.

There are weight loss programs out there that do work very well but some such as weight watchers worry me as you use a point score routine. Now this does work there is no doubt about that but it still allows you to eat junk if you wish so long as you don’t go over your points for the day. For example: you can have a burger and fries and depending on how many points that is for the day you can’t have anything else as you will go over your limit. This is not healthy. You must eat regularly throughout the day to stay healthy. Not everyone will do it this way but the opportunity is there.

Others like Jenny Craig work too and it promotes healthier eating but again you are not learning to organize your own eating habits as you buy their meals. So the best weight loss option really is to take charge of your kitchen yourself and eat smaller healthier meals, drink lots of water, limit sugary drinks and exercise everyday. This could be walking, bike riding, gardening and so on. Make it as a normal part of your day and you will see and feel the benefits.

There are literally thousands of diet plans for you to choose from. The best diets for weight loss will not promise you rapid weight loss beyond the first couple of weeks. A good plan will produce a weight loss of 1 – 3 pounds per week and will be sustainable. By sustainable I mean that the plan is not so difficult that you will be unable to adhere to it.

The best diets for weight loss should contain the following -

1.  A meal plan that flexible and will allow you to eat your favorite kinds of foods and treats. It also should not starve you but encourage you to eat the right kinds of food.

2. An exercise program that you can fit to your level of fitness. Aerobic exercises  are the best to begin with but you should also add resistance exercises to your daily routine. Resistance exercises will build more muscle and the more muscle you have the higher your rate of metabolism. The higher your metabolism the more calories your body will burn.

3. Drink more water and avoid alcohol, soda's and sugared drinks. You will be amazed at how many calories this can cut out of your diet.

4. Eat more meals. Sounds crazy doesn't it but by eating more meals with smaller portions you don't get as hungry. When you go long periods of time without eating your body's metabolism will slow between feedings. When you eat several times a day your body maintains its higher rate of metabolism.

All diets take work. The best diets for weight loss will keep this to a minimum and allow you to enjoy most of the foods you already enjoy.

Loosing weight had been one of the most discussed topics in today’s world. Ever since being thin had been the trend of being noted as beautiful, men and women alike had obsessed about getting thin for the shortest time possible.

Weight loss pills and surgical interventions had been introduced to attract individuals to try such strategy. What most people don not see are the side effects that can be the onset of preferring such methods over the natural and healthier way of loosing weight.

Healthy and appealing eating. Some weight loss diets focuses on eating from a specific food group only. This usually leaves an individual deprived of some other nutrients.

It is best to choose a weight loss plan that includes ingesting food with all the nutrients in the food pyramid.

Eating frequent but smaller meals would make an individual feel much fuller for a longer period of time. Skipping meals only promotes the urge to eat more during the following meal.

By adding more fruits and vegetable to the diet, an individual may feel fuller during every meal, minus the calories.

Do not deprive one self of sweets, for example shakes. Healthy shakes are made of low-fat milk or juice (about 12 fluid oz.) with fruits and ice.

The idea is to eat everything in moderation. This would inhibit binging and would encourage an individual to stick to the plan.

Exercising. Healthy eating should always be accompanied with the proper cardiovascular activity. Exercising at least 30 to 60 minutes for at least five days in a week is advisable.

Gradual weight loss. A weight loss plan that would result to a slow but steady loss of weight (which is about ¾ to at least 2 pounds a week) is ideal. During the start of the plan, it is normal to lose weight at a much faster rate, but this should not be more than 3 pounds a week.

Behavior. This mean understanding oneself before starting on a weight loss plan. This includes determining which food one craves the most and the situations which triggers him or her to eat (for example, being nervous or stressed causes one to indulge in sweets etc).

The individual must be able to will himself or herself to say no when the urge to binge strikes. When he or she can do this, there is a must bigger chance that the person would be able to stick with the plan.

Maintenance plan. Once the desired weight had been achieved, the work does not stop there. The individual must have a plan as to how to maintain the new healthy weight and what physical activities to pursue.

It is best to continue with the regular healthy eating diet one had been used to at the start of the program, only gradually or ingesting “unhealthy” foods in moderation, so as not to necessarily deprive oneself of life’s simple pleasures.
